Black to Winter

scarf, floral, dress, leather, jacket  Even though these photos are some of my stockpiles from long ago, this is pretty indicative of what i’ve been wearing lately. You cannot get me out of leggings. And what better to throw over the leggings that I haven’t taken off in days than a simple, no-fuss printed dress. We had a few days of sunshine & happiness when I was running around with barely a cardigan on.  Forty degrees feels so warm in the dead of winter. But in no time I was back to whimpering under 3 blankets and never taking off my leggings. I am such a cold weenie.

I love the simplicity of this dress, but have always struggled with its pattern. I found it at target a couple years ago, on a sale rack, in a size too small. The tiny florals reminded me so much of the elusive 90s vibe that I am constantly hunting that I just had to have it. I solved the fit issue by cutting and removing the elastic string inside the waist seam. Instantly it fit perfectly, no more cutting me in half.

Would you buy something that doesn’t fit perfectly? What are your tricks for fixing a pieces fit?

Trying Something New

Velvet, ankle pants, work, outfit, sweater, blue, old navy   This may be the first time I have every layered a collared shirt under anything. I’m sure there’s some eye rolling, like I am so behind the times, but I’d successfully (or accidentally) avoided this layering staple. My thoughts, it was pretty cool, I guess. Throughout the day I could rarely figure out if any of the the second shirt could actually be seen, so maybe a shorter sweater next time. And I struggled with shoulder movement because of the undershirt. It would probably have been quite hilarious to watch me struggle with taking out this outfit, while barely being able to raise my arms above my shoulder. Like getting undressed, all of today was a bit of a strugglebus. So why not try new things. Velvet, ankle pants, work, outfit, sweater, blue, Old Navy work, outfit, sweater, blueVelvet, old navy, ankle pants, work, outfit, sweater, blue

Other new things tired lately: Bouldering, Ballet Barre Workout class, Shopping at Old Navy.

I’m just gonna crawl into bed now. No amount of red lipstick is preventing me from just feeling blah about this whole day.

Hopefully a new day’s sunshine will reset my cranky heart. Velvet, ankle pants, work, outfit, sweater, blue, old navy

Golden Flashback

stripes, yellow, cardigan, grey, skirt  stripes, yellow, cardigan, grey, skirt stripes, yellow, cardigan, grey, skirtI spent this weekend running around at an informal family reunion in Salt Lake City. It was wonderful to see the side of my family that is usually lost in the back of my mind and rarely seen in person. Growing up my immediate family never put much emphasis on general family time. Family seemed to come second to the myriad of other equally important events going on in our busy lives. This has developed in me the opposite desire. I wish too keep my family close. I look forward to when I can have my own household with family game nights and big holiday gatherings. I want to grow a community around me, and that goes beyond whatever blood I may perpetuate. Someday I just want a house overflowing with love.

While I was galavanting, or more so sitting, around with my family I failed to take any photos, outfit or otherwise. This doesn’t bode well for my new years goals, but I don’t want to be down on myself. Instead, I see it as just another motivation to be better in the future. So I leave you with this beautifully sun dreaming photo set from what seems like forever ago. It took forever for winter to hit us this year, so these pictures were taken on an extremely warm week in the beginning of October. I was so glad to just be out in the sunshine, I spent quite a long while playing around with my camera.

These take the cake for my favorite outfit photos yet. I had been dying to share this top on here, only to accidentally spill tye-die on it right before I really started blogging. I spent over an hour trying to pull all of the color out of it, and managed to do a pretty good job. I still liked hiding the “ruined” part away in this perfect skirt. The skirt is my prime example of why you should never give much heed to the size number on an item. It is a large from F21, which is not my size, but I can only guess that it was suppose to be high-waisted, because sitting right on my hips it fits just perfectly.stripes, yellow, cardigan, grey, skirtstripes, yellow, cardigan, grey, skirt

Transitions & 2014

I cannot remember the last time I made a New Years Resolution and I am sure that any that might have been ended in a quick failure. Much of my wandering thoughts lately has revolved around transitions and rebalancing. It only seems fitting that now would be the time to try some resolutions out. Once I managed to think of a couple, more just kept pouring out of my brain. I know that wanting to flip 100% into my dream self overnight is only a recipe for disaster. I stumbled across an idea from A Beautiful Mess that struck a chord with me. Four Simple Goals. I notoriously overreach with my planning, lists, and goals so I love the idea of focusing on just the meaningful and achievable side of goal making. I don’t want to reach too far, so I’m just looking towards March. So here they are, my simple goals for first part of 2014.

  • Spend More Time With Friends
    • Lately, I’ve been feeling that way too much of my socialness is online. Even when I’m with my friends, so much of our time is spent ignoring each other looking at our phones. And is see this everywhere! I want to get back to real life, and put more of a focus on deeply connecting with the friends I have and looking around me enough to make new ones.
  • Fill Frames
    • I went on this big spree a few months ago where I collected a ton of frames from thrift stores to start displaying my photos everywhere. No surprise that they are still empty. So this one is pretty self explanatory.
  • Take More Photos
    • I have always loved photography and I really want to make it a more integral part of my daily life. So this means more outfit photos as well as some creative projects as well.
  • Read 1 Book Every Month
    • Self explanatory. It’s been way to long since I’ve been a regular reader.

So I leave you with these from the first set of photos I took in the New Year. My boyfriend is a pretty easy subject when he’s out keeping me company for outfit photos and his kitty is pretty super cute [and absolutely loves him, as shown.] The first one’s my editing choice, the second was M’s preference. It is a little more fun.

I still need to work on my focusing, but at f1.8 it’s pretty hard for my poor eyesight to catch the little details. Anyone have any suggestions or tricks?

Discovering Overalls

Tights, Overalls, Denim, Chambray, Red, Stripes

I was so stoked on yesterday. I was awaiting an early morning call to run up the ski hill that never came so I wasted away my morning lounging in bed. I always have every intention to jump up and get running with my day, but the lure of my cozy bed is always too much to let me move. I also had every intention to get outside for a (cold) run. Instead I enjoyed a a lazy morning, breakfast with my guy, and a day running about like kids at the Discovery Center.Tights, Overalls, Denim, Chambray, Red, Stripes

Today was the first in a series of free Sunday’s at our local Discovery Center, so I made sure to make a visit. Who doesn’t love free things. They just celebrated their 25th anniversary, so the front area was filled with classic experiments that they’ve had over the years. I’m just sad I missed the liquid nitrogen ice cream they had at the official celebration. Since I felt like I was going on a kids outing, I got dolled up with little kid in mind.Tights, Overalls, Denim, Chambray, Red, Stripes

I just got these overalls while on a shopping run with friends. I love going out with them because we always just go to Plato’s closet and joke around over the wonderful, and hilarious things we find there. The best part about the place is we walk out with a cool little selection of clothes, all at a very reasonable budget. Debating whether the $10 sweater is worth the price always feels great but absurd. If you want recent fashion on a budget, I highly recommend it. This trip I managed to grab a few of my wishlist pieces, one of which is this Heritage denim shirt! The perfect chambray shirt has been on my wishlist for ages while I’ve had no luck locating one. Now I managed to acquire two in one evening! Pretty much a perfect way to begin 2014.Tights, Overalls, Denim, Chambray, Red, StripesTights, Overalls, Denim, Chambray, Red, Stripes

Are there any clothes that remind you of childhood?
