35mm: Farmers Market

farmers market sugared rush

This bread guy. As you can tell, he is nearly all out of bread, because they are just that delicious. That singular loaf on the left caught the eye of my boyfriend and we could not leave without it. Having woken up far to early than I would have liked and basically dragged ourselves out the door, neither of us had thought much about what we might need for the day. So we were cashless. We scrambled to pull together all but the last 60 cents and the wonderful man gave us the loaf anyways. Dedication and a friendly attitude mix great with amazingly generous people and a farmers market.

I just found a nearly new 35mm f/2.0 lens on craigslist that I could not turn down. This was it’s first foray out and about, and now that I’ve got a little more practice, I am 100% in love. Still in Manual mode, which made sleepy me a little slow to react this morning, but I’ve really noticed a difference in my photos. Or at least the way I’m looking at taking photos now. Gonna keep going for Manual May (thankgoodness I skipped blogging for most of April, cause that just doesn’t sound as great).

Enjoy the photos, and I’d love your comments, questions, critiques, or suggestions!

Treefort Music Fest: The Random Little Things

It was over a month ago that this wonderfully cool music festival rampaged through our tiny town, and I finally have a smattering of pictures fixed up from the crazy weekend. This was my first year going all in on the Treefort Music Fest madness and boy was it awesome! 4 Days. 7 Forts. 200+ Bands. More music than you could imagine. I don’t know how many bands I managed to fit in but I know never to judge a band by it’s name again.

The winner of most surprisingly good band went to Battlehooch. They hail from San Francisco and it was too awesome to see the bedraggled (from a SanFran to Boise car trip that day) band members get up and just have the best time together. I’m terrible at describing music, so I’ll refrain in that aspect but say that they’ve got a bit of hair, a mix-in of comedy and a lot of attitude. You better just check out their site to see how cool they really are.

I missed out when I didn’t take my camera to their show, but I got a few fun snaps of the event.

Discovering Overalls

Tights, Overalls, Denim, Chambray, Red, Stripes

I was so stoked on yesterday. I was awaiting an early morning call to run up the ski hill that never came so I wasted away my morning lounging in bed. I always have every intention to jump up and get running with my day, but the lure of my cozy bed is always too much to let me move. I also had every intention to get outside for a (cold) run. Instead I enjoyed a a lazy morning, breakfast with my guy, and a day running about like kids at the Discovery Center.Tights, Overalls, Denim, Chambray, Red, Stripes

Today was the first in a series of free Sunday’s at our local Discovery Center, so I made sure to make a visit. Who doesn’t love free things. They just celebrated their 25th anniversary, so the front area was filled with classic experiments that they’ve had over the years. I’m just sad I missed the liquid nitrogen ice cream they had at the official celebration. Since I felt like I was going on a kids outing, I got dolled up with little kid in mind.Tights, Overalls, Denim, Chambray, Red, Stripes

I just got these overalls while on a shopping run with friends. I love going out with them because we always just go to Plato’s closet and joke around over the wonderful, and hilarious things we find there. The best part about the place is we walk out with a cool little selection of clothes, all at a very reasonable budget. Debating whether the $10 sweater is worth the price always feels great but absurd. If you want recent fashion on a budget, I highly recommend it. This trip I managed to grab a few of my wishlist pieces, one of which is this Heritage denim shirt! The perfect chambray shirt has been on my wishlist for ages while I’ve had no luck locating one. Now I managed to acquire two in one evening! Pretty much a perfect way to begin 2014.Tights, Overalls, Denim, Chambray, Red, StripesTights, Overalls, Denim, Chambray, Red, Stripes

Catching Up

Blazer, Business, Outfit, Pencil Skirt   While I haven’t had much time to work on the writing part of this blog, I’ve kept collecting outfit pictures. The last month (or two I guess) have gone by in a flash. Most of it was a big blur of working and being tired. I don’t think I realized how exhausting it is to balance two different work schedules, and I am in such awe of those who can, or have to, do this regularly. I’m finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, and am hoping to move full time at my office job in the next few months.

These photos are from a couple months ago when Boise was just starting to get cold. My fingers just froze while I was out shooting these. I rarely spend time downtown but it was neat to  head to the top of a parking garage and just check out all the new things popping up in my city. If you’re a Boisean, the most notable is the transformation of “The Hole” into what i’m calling “The Tower.” After 25 years it’s pretty great to see a shiny new building all ready to start welcoming customers. Maybe one day I’ll get to work in this tiny little center hub. And maybe by then it won’t be so tiny!Boise Tower

The challenge to dress up to an office standard has been one of the more fun aspects of these last few busy months. The biggest challenge I’ve run into is that I AM NOT a morning person. I tend to wake up barely 30 minutes before I need to be in the car and on my way and it just feels like high school all over again. Back then I had perfected the 10 minute wake and run out the door routine. Nowadays I’m at about 10 – 15 minutes to get dressed and my hair/make-up done. While I do wish I was better about waking up and actually had some real time to get ready I have discovered a few tricks to speed up my morning.Sugared Rush 4

Create a Mix-N-Match Wardrobe

Since I’m just beginning to build my work wardrobe I’ve been keeping it simple. Most of my clothes are black, blue, or pink so that I can easily mix and match all of my work pieces together.

Blazer, Business, Outfit, Pencil SkirtDon’t Look In The Mirror

This may just be me, but I tend to over analyze myself if I spend too much time in front of the mirror. I know my closet pretty well and have learned to just trust my sense of style. If I think that a pair of pants and top would go well together, then I just trust that they will and I wear them. That extra minute or two spent microscoping over every detail of your outfit can be just enough to make you late in the morning, so why deal with it. (Now, this doesn’t apply to getting my hair and make-up done. Mirrors are pretty necessary for that 🙂 )Blazer, Business, Outfit, Pencil Skirt

Keep It Simple

This is one of those tips that is so easy to say, yet hard to actually practice. The way I go about it is to just think about only doing one thing. For my hair, I just turn on my straightener, because that one device can curl or straighten any annoying kinks I may have. Since it’s also the only thing I use on my rushed mornings, I also know how long it takes to heat up, and to touch up my hair. With  my make-up I decide on just one feature to play up. If my skins being annoying I’ll focus on getting a good foundation on, or if I’m feeling fun I’ll spend time doing my eye make-up. For the rest, I just grab the quickest, simplest thing to complete my look – a brush of tinted chapstick or a quick layer of mocha eyeshadow.

Fall Ready

SweaterWeatherGrey   GreyWhiteStripeSparkleSweater

I’ve got a long and early day tomorrow, so this will be brief. I have 100% fallen head over heels for fall now. Everywhere I go, I can’t help but be constantly distracted by all the perfect golden yellows and rich reds. Maybe I need a day where I just stare at trees, cause their beauty right now deserves it.

Now that it’s fall this sweater has gone back into a constant rotation in my closet. I found it last winter and it has been the first sweater I have loved in a long while. The relaxed fit is perfect for lounging around the house or just feeling super comfy while running around all day. It’s made of the softest material and has tinsel pieces woven throughout. That extra bit of sparkle just makes me feel so classy, even on a run-down relaxed day like today.

I spent the day doing a lot of lounging, a little bit of cleaning, and so much eating! Me and the boyfriend went to view Boise’s Fall parade of homes, which I thought would be the most awesome people opening their houses for public viewing. Not quite so. There were certainly some cool, and one downright amazing, houses, most of the ones we saw were basic, boring, cookie-cutter model homes up for sale. Slight disappointment, since i’m not yet able to buy my own place. But gosh I wish I was. Houses have so much beauty in them, I just love exploring them, and would be over the hill to have complete control over one. But someday.
