Halloween at Work | Sugared Rush

Again this year I spent the day working but I wasn’t going to let that stop the fun! For tonight’s party I am dressing up with my boyfriend as Aladdin and Abu. Like last year, when I went as an Angel this year I also made a special Halloween costume for work, that was a little easier to pull together. The main parts of this outfit I already had in my closet and adding the headpiece turned it into a recognizable costume! That’s the trick to wearing a costume in a typical work environment, I can change back to “work wear” in one quick motion. So it’s all in the headbands!

Two years ago I was Minnie Mouse for a different work costume and still had the ears around in my costume box. They were quite simple to create:

Supplies: felt, dotted ribbon, thread, & a plastic headband.

  • I chose to cut the ears along a folded piece of black felt so that the circles were connected and would fold over the headband.
  • I used an extra piece of felt, a bit smaller than the ear outlines and glued it inside the black edges.
  • I hand stitched around the edges to make sure they wouldn’t come apart, and to had a little detail.
  • The dotted ribbon has a build in wire along the red edges, which I just tied into a bow across the headband as well. The wire keeps the bow in shape, and the bow masks the ear attachments.

Durable and adorable.

More Gratitude, Less Attitude

Sometimes I think technology can read our minds, though this usually happens while grooving to my overly listened too favorite Pandora station. But today my camera was certainly on my same vibe, and promptly died only a few pictures into this shoot. I meanwhile was suffering from a growing headache and was only out because of earlier promises to myself. And thanks to the awesome addition of this LeMotto tote bag from She She Bon Bon, I’ve found my new motto.

So today I am grateful for:
    • Ibuprofen
    • Sunshine
    • Fledgling Get-togethers
    • Dreaming Big
    • Running

Major shout-out to Jen at JennifHsieh for hosing the giveaway that got me awesome bag and outlook on life. If you don’t read her blog currently, you are majorly missing out. Since my camera already cut me a break today, I’m gonna cut you short too and head to bed. Be certain that this won’t be the last time you hear me thinking gratitude and tote-ing away.

Black to Winter

scarf, floral, dress, leather, jacket  Even though these photos are some of my stockpiles from long ago, this is pretty indicative of what i’ve been wearing lately. You cannot get me out of leggings. And what better to throw over the leggings that I haven’t taken off in days than a simple, no-fuss printed dress. We had a few days of sunshine & happiness when I was running around with barely a cardigan on.  Forty degrees feels so warm in the dead of winter. But in no time I was back to whimpering under 3 blankets and never taking off my leggings. I am such a cold weenie.

I love the simplicity of this dress, but have always struggled with its pattern. I found it at target a couple years ago, on a sale rack, in a size too small. The tiny florals reminded me so much of the elusive 90s vibe that I am constantly hunting that I just had to have it. I solved the fit issue by cutting and removing the elastic string inside the waist seam. Instantly it fit perfectly, no more cutting me in half.

Would you buy something that doesn’t fit perfectly? What are your tricks for fixing a pieces fit?

Curious About Pariscomming.com

Pariscomming.com somehow got my email address this morning for a random promotional message and I really think their list purchasing is spot on. Even though I’ve never heard of this company before I am smitten with what they call their “Street Style Fashion.” My only hesitation is the actual quality of the clothes. There is nothing, good or bad, about them online! While they look adorable, I feel that any of these “imported from china” shops need to be validated for me before I consider buying from them. I’ve seen too many of my friends duped from similar sites. So until I hear more about them I’m just gonna lust over their pretty pictures.

It’s full on winter here, so I keep dreaming of beautiful fluffy sweaters  long sleeves. Unlike nearly everywhere else I’ve been browsing lately, ParisComming actually has a really large selection of long sleeves tops & dresses. (See #2!)  #9 is the absolute perfect sweater in my head. It looks long enough to be worn with leggings and is the most amazing shade of yellow. I have two skeins of yarn that are just about the shade of #4 and a long scarf is exactly what I have in mind for them. #1 is almost number 1 on my wishlist. I’ve spent years thinking on the beauty of capes, but have yet to find one that doesn’t eat me whole. I love the detachable fur hood on this one, and it comes in camel or red. At only $78.99 I’m really considering this one, but I just wish I could try it out first. That’s really the downside with online shopping.

What’s on your winter wishlist?

Fall Ready

SweaterWeatherGrey   GreyWhiteStripeSparkleSweater

I’ve got a long and early day tomorrow, so this will be brief. I have 100% fallen head over heels for fall now. Everywhere I go, I can’t help but be constantly distracted by all the perfect golden yellows and rich reds. Maybe I need a day where I just stare at trees, cause their beauty right now deserves it.

Now that it’s fall this sweater has gone back into a constant rotation in my closet. I found it last winter and it has been the first sweater I have loved in a long while. The relaxed fit is perfect for lounging around the house or just feeling super comfy while running around all day. It’s made of the softest material and has tinsel pieces woven throughout. That extra bit of sparkle just makes me feel so classy, even on a run-down relaxed day like today.

I spent the day doing a lot of lounging, a little bit of cleaning, and so much eating! Me and the boyfriend went to view Boise’s Fall parade of homes, which I thought would be the most awesome people opening their houses for public viewing. Not quite so. There were certainly some cool, and one downright amazing, houses, most of the ones we saw were basic, boring, cookie-cutter model homes up for sale. Slight disappointment, since i’m not yet able to buy my own place. But gosh I wish I was. Houses have so much beauty in them, I just love exploring them, and would be over the hill to have complete control over one. But someday.
